Ballymoney woman who invested life savings in new business idea in running for two awards
A Ballymoney business owner has been named a finalist in two categories at the 2026 Local Women Magazine Power to Switch Business Awards.
Catherine Gault has been shortlisted for both Entrepreneur of the Year and Best North Coast & Ballymena Business of the Year, recognising both her entrepreneurial success and her commitment to helping people improve their futures through education and training.
Five years ago, Catherine came up with a business idea and, along with her family, made the bold decision to invest their life savings and secure loans to purchase a derelict building.
While many saw an abandoned property, Catherine saw an opportunity to create a space that could positively impact lives and strengthen the local community.

Through years of determination, hard work, and perseverance, the building was transformed into ‘Elite Connected’, modern training rooms and office facilities that now serve as a hub for learning, development, and employability support.
Today, Catherine's organisation facilitates the delivery of a wide range of training programmes, qualifications, and employability support designed to meet the needs of local communities and help individuals gain the skills and confidence needed for employment and career progression.
Speaking about the award nominations, Catherine said: "I am absolutely delighted and incredibly honoured to be shortlisted in two categories. Five years ago this journey started with a vision, a lot of determination, and a belief that we could create something that would genuinely help people improve their lives.
"There were risks along the way and many challenges to overcome, but seeing a derelict building transformed into a thriving centre that helps people gain qualifications, develop skills, and build brighter futures has made every challenge worthwhile.

"This recognition belongs to everyone who has supported the business over the years, including our learners, partners, colleagues, friends, and family. I am very grateful and proud of what we have achieved together."
The winners will be announced at the Local Women Magazine Power to Switch Business Awards 2026 in the Europa Hotel in Belfast on November 14.
