Grieving grandfather and Ulster Unionist candidate Doug Beattie has been elected as an MLA on the day he buried his baby grandson
The newly elected MLA was elected after a lengthy 11th count at the Banbridge election centre for Upper Bann.
Today he was not there as he was attending the funeral of his 15-month-old grandson Cameron Tindale who died suddenly during the week.
The former army captain’s party colleague Jo-Anne Dobson, who was elected at an earlier count today, said it was a bittersweet day for the grieving MLA.
