‘Merger’ never considered - principals

THE principals of two Carrick secondary schools have moved to reassure parents and students that a merger is not on the cards.
Carrickfergus College principal Hedley Webb and his Downshire counterpart Jacqueline Stewart issued a joint statement this week after the contents of a Northern Eastern Education and Library Board Draft Area Plan were leaked to local press.
The document detailed a number of proposals, including one to amalgamate both schools on a single site by 2016. However, the statement has indicated that such a merger between the schools was never even considered.
